Chase the gold with a private chauffeur

Colorado fall color is spectacular and short. The aspens usually peak in the high country from the middle of September into the first week of October, and the exact window shifts a little every year with the weather. Timing and location are everything, and that is where a local chauffeur pays for itself. We watch the color as it turns and take you where it is best on the day of your tour, instead of guessing from a map.

You ride in comfort while someone else handles the mountain roads, so you can keep your eyes on the hillsides and hop out for photos whenever a view stops you. It is the most relaxed way to see a Colorado fall, and a favorite for families, photographers, and anyone who wants the leaf peeping without the driving.

The color does not wait, and neither do the dates
Peak color lasts only a couple of weeks, and the best fall weekends fill up fast. If you know when you are in town, reserve your date early so you do not miss the gold. We run a limited number of tours a day during the season.

Where the gold is, stop by stop

The route flexes to the color, but a typical fall day runs about 8 hours door to door and looks like this.

1
Door to door pickup
Morning
We pick you up at your lodging in Vail or Beaver Creek and head for the high country while the morning light is soft on the hillsides.
2
Independence Pass in gold
Photo stops along the climb
Climb toward the 12,095 foot summit of Independence Pass through some of the best aspen color in the state. We stop at the pullouts where the gold runs right down to the road.
3
Aspen and the Castle Creek valley
Midday
Roll through the Castle Creek valley toward the ghost town of Ashcroft, where golden aspens frame the peaks with almost no crowds. For an early start, we can arrange a sunrise look at Maroon Bells before the private vehicle window closes, or connect you to the scenic area shuttle.
4
Free time in downtown Aspen
About an hour or two
Break for lunch and a walk through Aspen while the town is dressed for fall.
5
Scenic return
Afternoon
Head home back over the pass or down through Glenwood Canyon, chasing the light the whole way.
